James Marzocca
Global Managing Director, Project Management & Construction
Director since 2018
For over 35 years, James has been building extensive operating and project experience in mining, smelting, refining, and minerals processing. He devoted the early part of his career to mining operations in South Africa, joining Hatch in Canada in 1996. Since that time, he has been successfully implementing projects, leading both owners’ and EPCM teams in South Africa, Canada, the United States, New Caledonia, Malaysia, China, and Brazil.
James' boots-on-the-ground experience ensures his fellow Board members are informed about our project-execution work and that it gets the focus it deserves. Moreover, he brings a lifelong passion for health and safety to the senior leadership team, adding his voice to ultimately ensure that everyone returns home safely at the end of the day or shift.
James’ foremost interest is creating and leading teams to implement large, challenging, and complex projects safely. He looks for opportunities to mentor smart, hard-working young people and enjoys seeing them develop into competent, successful professionals.
James graduated from University of Cape Town with a BSc in engineering and completed a masters in business leadership at University of South Africa, Pretoria.
“Projects can—and must—be delivered to achieve all the objectives: safety, schedule, cost, and quality.”
